Mystical Magic - A Drama Queen Cosmetics Look & Review

HI everyone! I hope you guys had a stellar weekend. I sure did, (quite literally, actually). I witnessed the first annular eclipse in 18 years yesterday, and it was awesome! If you follow me on Instagram (@bowsandcurtseys) you might have seen the photos on there. It was definitely an amazing thing to witness, and I can't wait for the next one 5 years from now!

Anyway, I was contacted a few weeks ago by a company named Drama Queen Cosmetics. I was immediately drawn in by the name and their lovely website. They are a new company that began backstage on the set of a cult horror show. Drama Queen aims to bring the drama and durability of stage makeup to life and make it wearable for everyday life. They are a cruelty-free company and are paraben-free.

I wanted to create a look that could be seen both on stage during a dramatic play, and be worn by the everyday person!

(Sorry for the lack of full-face photos! My battery died before I got the chance to snap some. I pretty much wore a matte pink blush a nude/pink lips.)

SWATCHES, PRODUCT SHOTS & REVIEW

Swatched over Lime Crime's Eyeshadow Helper, patted on with flat eyeshadow brush.

I was super excited to get these in the mail because as some of you know, I am a huge sucker for cute packaging, and these are right up my alley. They are sleek and sophisticated and look expensive. The pots have that same rubberized feel as NARS blushes do, which I like.

As for the eyeshadows themselves, they are nice, but not exactly for me. I prefer eyeshadows with a lot more brightness and these were sort of muted. For some reason, I had loads of fallout with Canary Diamond and Sugar Plum and they were a bit on the powdery side (their main ingredient is Talc, which could be the culprit. I know some people are sensitive to Talc, so keep that in mind). Maybe because these two are classified as "High Pearl".  If you're the type of person who prefers a sheer wash of color, then you'll love Canary Diamond and Sugar Plum. For the eye look and swatches, I had to apply several layers in order to get a pigmentation I was satisfied with.

They are by no means terrible, and a couple of the shades were actually quite nice (like Nocturne and Absinth). Those two definitely had the best pigmentation on the bunch and not much fallout. Nocturne is a Matte shade and Absinth is a Luminous Shimmer.

Absolutely beautiful packaging. A+!

"Nocturne (Matte Eyeshadow) – True black. Doubles as black eyeliner when used wet on brush."

I really like this matte black shadow! It's super pigmented and matte, and it goes on smoothly. It blends well and stays put! I even had trouble wiping this off with a makeup wipe. It was a soap and water kind of duty, even without primer!

"Sugar Plum (High Pearl Eyeshadow) – Soft shimmery purple."

My least favorite of the bunch. It is a beautiful color (light-medium purple with a blue duo-chrome) but it's just too light and sheer for my taste. I also had a lot of fallout with this shade.

"Absinth (Luminous Shimmer) – Shimmery emerald green."

This is such a gorgeous shade of green! It's not too light, and not too dark. It has lovely specks of gold and bronze running though it and it really brings out my eye color. It has great pigmentation and staying power.

"Canary Diamond (High Pearl) – Translucent yellow gold shimmer."

Canary Diamond has a similar finish and pigmentation as Sugar Plum. It's very pearlized and sheer.

Eyeshadows retail at $15.00 USD at 2g, 0.07 oz and they ship internationally.

Overall, they are nice shadows for a company that is just starting out. The packaging is just gorgeous and I really like a couple of the shades I got (I'd stick to their Matte and Luminous Shimmer shadows). I can see this company becoming huge in the future, and they definitely have the drive and potential!  Thank you to Drama Queen Cosmetics for providing these shadows for me to review.

I hope you all like this look and that you enjoyed this review and found it helpful If any of you have tried this brand before, what are your thoughts and what shades would you recommend?

Have an outstanding week, guys! Stay happy and healthy and I'll see you all soon.

  1. I really like the colour palette you chose!  Highlighting the top of your crease with Sugar Plum was a great choice!  I can see the pigmentation of Drama Queen is great- but let me know if it lasts throughout the day!

  5. Very pretty and very you! This look has Ronnie written all over it for sure. Reminds me of a few other looks you've done which is probably what drew you to these colors in the first place I'm guessing.

Having JUST finished my own DQC look, I definitely agree with your overall review of the line, a fair assessment all around. Also goes to show that a good artist like yourself can make any product look amazing!

  8. This look is really beautiful, Ronnie! Despite the colors not being as bright and pigmented as you prefer, you were able to create an awesome look... you are a skillful woman. ;-) Unfortunately I have been trying to avoid products with talc so this brand will not be on my to-try list.

  13. I'm not usually commenting 'cause it could seem extremely boring for you to read my "Gorgeous" "Wonderful" and "Awesome"...your creations are so stunning that it's hard for me to find the right words to express how much I appreciate them....
And that's a good exercise for me, cause my eyes are the same colour of yours and I can try your make-up myself.
Let me say the final result is deeply far from yours....!!! LOL

  15. Great! Review. I've tried Scarlet and Gold digger from Dramaqueen cosmetics, they are both pearl base but they are really high pigment. I think there are a few shades of their pearly base stuff that are more sheer for highlights. I highly recommend the darker pearl base shades if you like deeper pigments :)

  18. Looks beautiful as always! But I don't think I could bring myself to spend $15 on ONE eyeshadow that's sheer and powdery though :(

  21. Oh wow....Nocturne looks...increeeedible. And I do have to like a dark shade with not much fallout. I could probably pass on the rest though, given what you describe of the formula.

  22. You are the queen of smokey eyes! I have rather the same opinion of Drama Queen, slightly disappointed.
