Muse Album Cover Series- Origin of Symmetry

Welcome to the second installment of my Muse album cover series! Today's look is inspired by Muse's second studio album, Origin of Symmetry, which was realeased in the US in 2005 (but was orginally supposed to be released in 2001). This album is one of my favorites, and it it greatly different from it's predecessor, Showbiz. With it's heavier, bassy sound and use of experimental instruments, it definitely makes it a treat for the ears (and soul).

The title of the album was inspired by the book Hyperspace by theoretical physicist Michio Kaku. It discusses how a future book about the discovery of supersymmetry should be entitled "The Origin Of Symmetry", due to its implications in physics, in reference to the explanatory impact Charles Darwin's "On The Origin Of Species" had on biology. According to Matt Bellamy, "everyone’s been writing about the origin of life so now they’ll start looking at the origin of symmetry; there’s a certain amount of stability in the universe and to find out where it originates from would be to find out if God exists".

According to Bellamy, the artwork is "a collection of work of the fourteen artists who've all been given the same title, so even though each piece is in a radically different style, you get a sense of there being some form of continuity through different people's perception of the same theme." Le sigh.

As you can see, I took inspiration from not only the orange sky, but also from small color details from the posts on the cover (silver and turquoise). I figured a cut crease would go well with the "symmetry" vibe. I didn't want a harsh white lid, so I layered a white duo-chrome shadow with an orange shift to tone it down a bit.

It's really difficult for me to pick a favorite song off of this album. But the ones that get the most abuse from the replay button are, Plug in Baby, Feeling Good, New Born, Space Dementia, and Megalomania. These songs are more than just songs to me, they are pieces of art that are emulated through sound waves. 

I decided to share their live version of Plug in Baby, because come on! Who can sound almost better than the studio recording of their own songs? MUSE, THAT'S WHO. WARNING: Supermassive chills ahead.

Muse Album Cover Series - Showbiz

Hi guys, I am back and I sure missed you guys to pieces! I would like to introduce the first installment of a mini-series that will be inspired by my favorite band, Muse; more specifically, their album covers. While I was on hiatus, I was seriously struggling with inspiration with new looks, so I thought creating looks inspired by each album cover would be fun and challenging. They inspire me to no end, so why not?

 Ever since I was a little girl, I have been obsessed with music. Music holds a special place in my heart, and it has helped me through many dark and difficult times in my life, as well as some very special moments. I remember setting up my boombox with my little sister, and we would listen to music all day long, and sing and dance without a care in the world. We'd even wait by the radio for hours just to record our favorite song on a cassette tape (anyone else do that?)! We'd write our own songs and rhythms . I wouldn't leave the house without my walkman, and I'd embarrass my mom with my oh so lovely voice. To this day, I cannot go a day without listening to some tunes. It keeps me alive...it keeps me going! I'm a lover of all genres, but no one else can compare to the one and only, Muse.

This look is inspired by their debut album, Showbiz, which was released in 1999. The album art features a sexy space girl, living in a blue world, and splashing in alien puddles.

If you haven't heard of the magical trio that calls themselves Muse, then you're seriously missing out! Their music is sort of difficult to explain, but many like to label their sound as alternative/progressive-rock/dramatic/emotional/electronic/symphonic. Some may even call them weird. Regardless of what they sound like, they are responsible for the countless chills and eargasms I have experienced throughout the years. I've seen them live in the past, and they put on a performance like no other. I am seeing them again in January, and I can hardly contain my feels!

"Unintended" is my favorite track of the album. It's an oldie, but definitely a goodie. Although this is one of their more emotional and softer songs, it's still an unforgettable piece. Sit back, and enjoy. You can thank me later :)

I hope you are all doing well! That means I'm going to be in and out of appointments for about 6 weeks (which equals pain, boo!). Thankfully the worst is over, but it's still no walk in the park.

Mini Hiatus

Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing happy, healthy and well. As you might have guessed from the title of this post, I will be taking a short hiatus from my blog due to personal reasons (and lots of upcoming dental work), as well as having zero inspiration lately. I guess you can call it a creative block. As many of you know, I like my makeup looks to be creative, different, and with an inspiration that means something to me. I'd hate to just post up another smokey eye that you've seen a million times before. I just think I need to remove myself from the makeup world for a little bit, and come back with a refreshed mind that's full of new ideas for you guys!

I hope you understand why I need to take a small break from blogging. There is no need to worry though, I am not leaving for good! I absolutely love what I do, and you all mean so much to me. The continued love and support that I receive from you guys on a daily basis is so humbling and rewarding, and there is no way on earth to show how much I appreciate every single one of you! From the bottom of my heart, thank you.
