Recently I was contacted by Wantable, a company that offers monthly subscription boxes. Not only do they have a beauty/cosmetics box, but they also offer an accessory box and an intimates box. I've gotten many emails like this from other companies in the past but I've declined them all because personally, I simply don't think paying for sample sized beauty products that you probably won't end up liking anyway is worth it. Wantable stands out from the crowd though. Albeit a little more expensive than most subscription boxes, it's for a good reason. You get full-sized, high end beauty products that are personalized just for you by taking a highly detailed questionnaire. and includes 4-6 full-size products, hand-picked just for you from quality, premium brands to perfectly fit your style. You let them know what products you “Love”, “Like” and “Dislike” and you are more likely to receive your “Love” items than your “Like” items, but they will never send you any of your “Dislike” items. You also give color preferences and other options in your profile, and you can always change these options in the future.
Boxes are $36 a month, or you can buy one box, no strings attached, for $40. All boxes retail from $80+! Mine retailed at $93, which is well over what you pay for the box itself. Unlike other monthly subscription boxes, Wantable doesn't pay much attention to it's packaging, which is not a problem for me. I care about what's on the inside, not some fancy box and tissue paper! Now let's get on with the review!
I received 5 full-sized products and one sample (not pictured above). Right away I was impressed but the pretty packaging of the products!
From LAQA & Co.: "This delightful berry polish is the perfect vacation shade. Beautifully packaged in unique artwork from young designers, LAQA & Co. polishes are more than just cosmetics, they're little pieces of art. This polish is three-free, paraben-free and cruelty-free! Beauty tip: Apply two coats of polish over a base coat and then finish with a top coat. For a unique look, try a matte top coat!".
Not many of you know this, but I am also a nail polish junkie I have hundreds of bottles and I cannot resist buying at least one new polish every time I'm at the drugstore. This polish from LAQA & Co. is SO NICE. I haven't heard of the brand before, but I am thankful that I am aware of it now. I love the long bottle, and the brush is perfect! I can't stand those short, stubby brushes, and this one makes applying the polish almost effortless. The formula is so rich and creamy and you can easily get away with one coat. I'm a habitual two-coater, so I just had to do two. The longevity is great; I went four full days without any noticeable chipping. I used Essie's Grow Stronger as a base coat, and Seche Vite top coat. I love the luscious berry shade too! I think it's perfect for both summer and fall, and it's flattering on every skin tone. It has a high gloss, cream finish. I love that it's paraben-free, three-free and cruelty-free. I also got a $10 off a $30 purchase coupon. Always a huge plus for me! This retails for $11.00.
From Bésame: My Sweetheart Balm is a luminous lip moisturizing balm with a hint of color that gives you an elegant, long lasting finish. I carefully crafted a healthy formula that deeply moisturizes and conditions while fortifying with antioxidants Vitamins C and E. It is highly emollient and protective as it drenches the lips with exceptional comfort and hydration is sheer, shiny pops of color. Beauty tip: Use it alone for a subtle sheen or on top of your favorite lipstick for a shiny finish.
Alright, how stinkin' adorable is the packaging on this?! I am never throwing away that cute little box. Look at the little birdies! Aww. I also love the vintage look and feel of the packaging, and the fact that "Besame" means "Kiss me" in Spanish. Love it! I'm not a huge lip balm person because I rely on my lip sticks and lip tars way too much, but this product has changed my mind! I usually stay away from products like these because I cannot stand that sticky feeling and I feel as if my lips are suffocating This actually does make my lips feel super hydrated and drenched while also giving me a lovely shine and sheer pop of color. The tangerine shade is so fun and a nice change from your regular pinks and reds! It feels smooth and soft on the lips, and the product itself is sort of like a thin, jelly consistency. This retails for $18.00.
From Face Stockholm: Classic bronzing powder to bring a warm glow to your face all year long. Get that sun-kissed look in seconds without the damaging rays. Beauty tip: Dust onto your forehead, cheekbones, and nose for a healthy glow.
This is a stunning bronzer! Unlike a lot of bronzers that have a chocolate-y undertone, this has a gorgeous coppery-red undertone that really mimics that natural. sun-kissed look rather than looking like you have dirt smeared on your face. Although this shade is a little dark for my skin tone, (shade #3, Capri) it's still wearable if I apply it with a fluffy brush while using a light hand. In the swatches above, the left is applied with my finger, and the right is applied with a brush. Lasts just as long as my favorite NARS Laguna, and that's hours upon hours. Another score! This retails for $30.
From Susan Posnick: "COLOREYEDEFINE- A slender pencil comprised of an angled liner thin enough to define, yet soft enough to blend as a shadow. Accompanying the liner is a self-dispensing eye shadow created to complement the liner color. All combinations are subtle enough for every day, yet they can be layered for those dramatic "evening eyes. Beauty tip: Smudge pencil with fingertips or blend with a brush to use as an eyeshadow. They eyeshadow is in the cap. To apply eyeshadow, unscrew cap and twist back-and-forth over the sponge tip. For more intense color, reapply."
I really wanted to love this eyeliner/eyeshadow pencil because I really liked the concept, but it was just mediocre for me. I mean, it's not bad, but it doesn't blow me away either. The purple color is pretty, but not vibrant enough for my taste. It's also not very pigmented either. I had to use 3-4 swipes in order to get it opaque enough to be photographed. It was also a little clumpy and it smeared on my eyes after a couple of hours. The first swatch from the left is using the thin side of the pencil, second is using the thick end, third is using the eyeliner as a base with the eyeshadow patted on top, and the fourth is the eyeshadow on it's own. As you can see, it is very sheer. This would still be usable as a base for eyeshadows though, so it's not totally useless! This retails for $26.00.
From Cala: "Cala Travel Retractable Lip Brush provides smooth and even application with all lip color products. It comes with a cap to keep the brush clean and neat! Beauty tip: Toss in your bag for touch-ups on the go!"
This is a great little brush for those in between touch ups. I wouldn't use this brush for my initial application because it lacks sharp edges to get that precise look. But for touch-ups or just a stained lip look, it works well. My favorite thing about this cute little brush is that it has a cap! I think we've all dealt with our lip brushes making a huge mess of our makeup bags and making it look like a crime scene. This solves that problem, all while being sanitary, too. The bristles are dense, and not too floppy which makes application easy as pie. The product does not list whether or not the bristles are synthetic or not, but to me, they look and feel like animal hair. This retails for $8.00.
From Lise Watier: An exceptionally light creamy mousse texture, combined with the antioxidant, anti-aging properties of our exclusive Labrador Tea extract. Easily applied with the fingertips, its long-lasting formula gives the eyelids and iridescent look. Beauty tip: Apply with your fingertips, blending out towards the crease.
I was so utterly impressed with these! When I saw them in the little plastic sample container, all I said was, "Meh". But once I swatched these, all I could say was "Ohhhh!". They are as smooth as a baby's bum, they're hydrating and they look like they're made from crushed angel wings. They almost feel like silk and they shine like no one's business. I love how iridescent they are and they blend seamlessly. With a primer, these lasted for many hours on me without creasing or fading. I'm definitely considering buying the full size of the Sunrise Peach shade. It's a bonus that these having anti-aging properties. Now that I am in my late 20's, that is definitely something that I'm willing to purchase! The sample was free, but the full size pot retails for $24.00.
Overall, I believe that this monthly subscription box is worth it! I'm very pleased with what I got in my box and it even introduced me to some new fantastic brands. If you aren't happy with what you receive one month, you can always re-take your quiz and get a better result next time. Like I mentioned earlier, the Wantable box is $36 monthly, or if you have commitment issues, you can get a single box for $40. If makeup boxes aren't your thing, you might want to check out their accessories box and/or their intimates box. It's like getting a gift from Santa every month. I hope you all enjoyed this review! Many thanks to Romil from Wantable as well! Take care.
