Happy November! Welcome to this month's installment of my beauty blogger of the month series. If you aren't familiar, each month I will showcase a favorite artist of mine featuring an exclusive interview, a gallery of my favorite looks of said artist, and a makeup challenge look that the artist creates just for Bows and Curtseys inspired by an image chosen by yours truly!
I am very pleased to share this month's talent with you guys! If you haven't heard of or seen GlitterGirlC around Instagram or Youtube, then you've been missing out on a real treat! I first met Cecilie a few years back on Makeupbee.com and we've been in contact ever since. She is one of the nicest and sweetest girls you'll ever meet and she is insanely talented! Her eye for detail and incredible precision and creativity sets her apart from the rest. I sit there and watch her YouTube videos in complete awe because she creates these tiny works of art of her face with hardly any effort! She's a magician, I tell ya! But in all seriousness, she's a true artist in the makeup world and her sweet demeanor makes her that much more awesome!
I chose this image of the RED Valentino Spring 2013 Ad Campaign Shot by Tim Walker for Cecilie to gain inspiration with because I mean, come on! It's absolutely gorgeous and I knew that it would be perfect for her. I knew that she would be able to bring the magical aura of this image to life. Of course, she delivered!
Here is a video tutorial of this look by GlitterGirlC herself!
Please introduce yourself!
Hi! My name is Cecilie, I'm 23 years old and come from a cold country up north, called Norway. I see myself as a happy, a little crazy and shy girl. I don't do very well in social settings, so it takes a while for me to start talking to people. But when I've first started, I go crazy and it's difficult to shut me up, haha! All in all, my life mainly revolves around makeup, my fiance, family and school.
Thank you Veronica, for featuring me this month and I hope you all enjoy the interview!
Why did you start posting your work online?
I first discovered the inspiring and amazing art of makeup, online, through YouTube and blogs. So after practicing a while and when I felt more confident about my makeup looks, it felt natural to me posting them online, where I got all the inspiration in the first place.
I started out posting some looks on Makeup Geek's weekly challanges. After that I found an other makeup community called Makeupbee, and since the first look I saw on there was Veronica's «1920's Flapper Vampire» look, you can understand that I was sold and had to start posting there! ;D Now, I'm mostly posting on Facebook, Instagram, Youtube and my blog, and on makeup communities from time to time.
What are the best and worst things about sharing your work with the world?
The best thing is definitely getting feedback on my work! I feel so happy when someone says something positive about my looks, when I hear that I've inspired someone or when my looks get recreated! It's the best feeling in the world! I also love that I can connect with people all over the world that have the same passion for makeup as I do, because I don't know anyone in real life that loves makeup in that way!
The worst thing is that it can be a bit stressful at times. People expect at least one look a week. But filming, taking pictures and editing takes 3-4 days, and with school work, it can sometimes be a bit much. But when I finally upload my video and get feedback on it, it's all worth it!
What do you do when you aren't posting your makeup art online?
I go to university, where I'm taking a bachelor in economics. It's not exactly what I want to do, but it's a safe education to lean back on if becoming a makeup artist doesn't work out! Also, when I'm not doing makeup, I like to watch movies, dance and watch Youtube videos.
What do you think is your best work?
My Cheshire Cat inspired look! I feel like I haven't come up with a better look after that, hehe. I just love the colors, the shape and the pink and purple eyelashes!
What makeup or beauty product(s) can you not live without?
My Sugarpill eyeshadow palettes are a must! I'm rarely doing a look without some of those shadow! NYX Jumbo eye pencil in Milk is also a must – have! It makes any eyeshadow look it's best. The latest product I bough, which I don't understand how I could live without, is the Make Up For Ever «Flash» palette. I love using it for detailed work, but it's also awesome to use on both cheeks and lips!
What was your biggest beauty faux pas?
When I was 13- 14 years old I felt so fashionable matching my clothes with my makeup! That can look awesome if you apply the makeup right, but I didn't! I could wear a bright green outfit, and use only one bright green eyeshadow all over my lid and crease. The same goes for pink, purple and blue. I loved bright, fun colors back then too, but thinking about it now, the combination of clothes and makeup didn't look very good! :P
What beauty-related thing do you absolutely suck at?
I can never seem to do anything with my hair! It just looks flat and boring all the time, and when I try to tease it, use hair spray or curl it, it's so long that it ends up looking like a disaster anyway!
What is one makeup rule that you preach, but always break?
Not to over pluck the eyebrows! I love fuller brows, but I always pluck them so that they look tiny. What can I say, I need as much eye space as possible for my makeup! So the eyebrows have to suffer a bit.
What are your personal favorite blogs, YouTube channels, Instagrams, etc? They don't have to be makeup related!
There are so many that I don't know where to begin! But here are some that I can think of at the top of my head:
Blogs, Instagram- and Facebook pages: • Tal Peleg • Kiki Makeup • Psychosandra • Ida Aztor • Bows and Curtseys • Katie Alves • Pigments and Palettes • Yumemi Sakai • Hanna Majava
The list goes on, but I'll stop there ;D
Youtube channels: • NikkieTutorials • Julia Graf • Julie G • MakeupByTiffanyD • Michael James • Nijigasumi16 • Pixiwoo • Sokolum79 • Vintageortacky • xsparkage
Okay, long lists, but now you guys have some amazing and inspiring pages to check out!
Besides makeup and beauty, what is your biggest passion?
Dance! Mostly hip hop, funk and those sort of dance types. I've taken dancing classes since I was 7 years old and I started out with a type of dance called jazz ballet, which I also love! And of course, my fiance. I love spending my days with him!
Tell us 3 fun facts about yourself:
• When I was little, I loved collecting stickers and had 40 well organized sticker books filled with colorful, pretty stickers in different textures.
• My hair is so long that it goes down to the middle of my but. It's always been long, but right now I need a haircut!
• A drawing I did when I was 13, of my school bag, was given as my school's main gift to the Crown Prince and Princess of Norway, when they visited our school. I felt very honored by that!
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Chocolate! Darn those delicious, soft sugar bombs, that love settling down on my hips!
Who is your celebrity crush?
I don't have any right now, but when I was younger I had a crush on «MacGyver», Tom Welling and Ewan McGregor! I fell for the good guys in the movies, hehe!
What are your plans for the future?
I wish I knew exactly what those were, so I could completely focus on that! I do know that I want to become a makeup artist, so after my bachelor, I want to go to a makeup school! My biggest and most unrealistic dream is to have my own makeup line, but I don't know at all where to start. Studying economics doesn't help me figuring it out either for some reason! But, I'll just continue practicing makeup and then see what the future brings!
I hope you enjoy Cecilie's work as much as I do! She's so good and what she does and watching her videos is so mesmerizing! Do yourself a favor and follow he social media sites!
Thank you so much, Cecilie for being a part of my Blogger of Month feature! You are an inspiration to me and to many others. Continue doing what you're doing, and you are sure to go places!
