Beauty Box 5 Review

In an ocean of monthly subscription boxes, Beauty Box 5 is one of the most affordable ones out there. For only $12 a month, you get 5 carefully selected beauty items shipped right to your front door. Unlike like other beauty subscriptions like Wantable and Ipsy, you don't get to select what you get every month, so if you liked to be surprised, then this box is for you! They also have a quarterly plan which is $30 (you save $6), and an annual plan which is $99 (you save $45). By becoming a member, you get free shipping and exclusive discounts from partner brands. Currently, BB5 only ships to the lower 48 states and Canada.

With Beauty Box 5, you get a mixture of full size, deluxe sample sizes and travel sized products, which is pretty different from what I've seen. Beauty Box 5 offers a mixture of luxury, commonly known brands, niche brands, eco-conscious and even vegan brands. Your beauty box will include a selection of makeup, hair care, skin care, nail care, fragrances and beauty accessories.

Some or all products shown in this post may have been provided by the said brand(s) for potential review and/or use. For more information, please read my DISCLAIMER.

This is what I got in my October box!

First off, I love the color of the box! I know it's such a small thing to enjoy, but I adore that shade of blue. Moving on! In my box, I received a full sized tub of Tree Hut Shea Sugar Body Scrub, full sized Be a Bombshell Eyeshadow and Lip Gloss, Full sized Model Co. Eyeliner and a travel sized Aveeno Lotion Sunscreen.

Up first is this almost-smells-good-enough-to-eat body scrub from Tree Hut! I'm a sucker for mango scented body products so I instantly fell in love with this. It's made from USDA certified organic shea butter and mango puree. I suffer from eczema on my hands on legs, especially during the winter months, so scrubs like these really help revive my skin when it's in desperate need.
Here are some of the benefits listed from Tree Hut's website:

  • -Certified Organic Shea Butter: skin repairing & moisturizing, anti-aging, promotes elasticity
  • -Mango Puree: packed with vitamins, minerals and anti-oxidants, prevent drying of the skin and formation of wrinkles, healing and  protective
  • -Safflower Seed Oil: deep moisturizer
  • -Evening Primrose Oil: rejuvenating and anti-aging agent
  • -Sweet Almond Oil: improves complexion and retains natural sheen
  • -Avocado Oil: reduce sun damage/age spots, hydrates
  • -Macadamia Seed Oil: excellent skin moisturizer and protector, High in essential fatty acids for dry skin and scarring, effective  antioxidant
  • -Orange Oil: supports collagen formation, detoxifying, repairs sun damaged skin
  • -Paraben Free and No Formaldehyde donors
  • -Made in the USA
  • -Not tested on animals
I can honestly say that this scrub has helped my skin big time. It's helped keep me moisturized and it drastically reduced the appearance of cracks and dry patches on my legs. It does leave a bit of an oily residue, but for me, that's not a problem. I need all the moisture I can get! This scrub retails at $6.99.

Up next is a compact eyeshadow from Be a Bombshell Cosmetics. The compact comes packaged in a sleek black box with their logo printed on the front.

Their logo totally reminds me of Barbie! The size of the eyeshadow compact is about the same size of a MAC eyeshadow, although it is made from a lighter weight plastic. It's a bit difficult to open and I actually broke a nail in the process. Boo!

I didn't like that the label on the back is a sticker.

The shadow itself isn't terrible, but it's nothing spectacular either. It's a light frosty silver shade that is decently pigmented. It's was pretty easy to blend, but I did need a few layers to get it to be opaque enough to photograph. Swatch on the left is on bare skin, swatch on the right is on top of Lime Crime's Eyeshadow Helper. Be a Bombshell eyeshadows retail at $14.

In my box was another product from Be a Bombshell Cosmetics; a lip gloss. I am not a huge lip gloss wearer because my lips feel suffocated when I wear them, but I have to admit that the color of this particular gloss is oh so pretty and summery!

Although the color is a beautiful orangey-coral shade with lots of gold sparkles, this gloss is really sticky. Like, almost maple syrup sticky. Some people like sticky gloss, but I am not a fan of lip glosses in general. If you can put up with sticky-ness, then you will probably like this gloss. The color is gorgeous and the staying power and pigmentation are intense. I'm a fan of the doe-foot applicator. Makes application a breeze. Be a Bombshell lip glosses retail at $14.

Next in line is this eyeliner by Model Co. Cosmetics. I was most excited about this in my box because what is more practical than black eyeliner? It's definitely a product that I purchase over and over again, regardless of brand because it is a staple in my beauty routine. I love to test out new brands because I have yet to find my holy grail of eyeliners. First thing I noticed right away was the built in sharpener on the cap! How awesome is that? I tend to lose my pencil sharpeners all the time, so having one built in the cap is a super functional for me.

The eyeliner is a true, dark black and it glides on like butter! It's enriched with shea butter (makes sense as to why it glides on so smoothly) so it does not tug on your eyes when you apply it. It's richly pigmented and lasts all day. This is one of the few eyeliners that actually stayed on my waterline for more than five minutes! I am very pleased with this liner and I am definitely purchasing it when I run out! Model Co. eyeliners retail at $18.

Last item in my box was a travel sized sunscreen lotion by Aveeno. It has a broad spectrum SPF of 30 and it hydrates and protects your skin from the sun at the same time. As a super pale individual living in sunny, Southern California, I always carry a mini sunscreen in my bag. I burn easily, so it's a must for me! Aveeno is a brand that I know and trust and I have been using it for many years now. It's gentle on my sensitive skin and I have never had a problem with the brand. This particular sunscreen is a thin consistency so is absorbs quickly and leaves my skin looking hydrated. It does not have a strong sunscreen smell and it doesn't leave me feeling sticky. As I mentioned before, I have eczema on my hands and legs and this helps keep the dryness at bay, all while protecting me from the sun's rays at the same time. I didn't get a swatch picture of this because I think we all know what sun screen looks like! This travel size tube retails at $2.

So I did some quick math and my box retailed at over $54! That is definitely worth the $12 a month price tag. It pays for itself, almost 5 times to be more specific. I enjoyed most of the products in my box, so it's safe to say that I can recommend this box to you guys. It's affordable, you get high quality products from well-known brands, and cancellation is free and you can cancel at any time if you end up being disappointed with your monthly boxes.

I hope you enjoyed my review of Beauty Box 5! If you are interered, please check them out over at www.beautybox5.com!
