Make Up Forever HD Foundation Review & Swatches

Hi guys! The kind people over at Make Up Forever were nice and generous enough to send me a foundation to try and review for my readers. I was super excited to receive this in the mail, as I have been dying to try their HD foundation after hearing and reading stellar reviews on it.

This isn't a new product, but it's one that people are typically very curious about and want to try...and for good reason!

From Make Up Forever's website: "The MAKE UP FOR EVER HD Complexion products use innovative formulas to create a new generation of make up which is both invisible on HD cameras and to the naked eye. The HD Foundation is an oil-free medium-to-full coverage liquid foundation which covers skin imperfections, while remaining invisible on-screen and in real life. Its extremely fine texture is supple and easy to apply. Enriched with moisturizing agents, it leaves the skin soft and radiant. It is available in a wide range of shades to suit all skin tones."

The foundation retails at $40 USD at 1.1 oz. It's a bit pricey, but if you're feeling a bit spendy, then you're in for a real treat! You can purchase it online at or at Sephora stores in the US. I believe Ulta carries it as well.

Make Up Forever states that this is a medium-full coverage foundation, but I find it to be more on the sheer side. I have combination/oily skin that is acne prone so I needed a bit more coverage than that. It hid most of my redness and skin imperfections but my skin still needed a bit of help with concealer and powder. Two layers of foundation was good enough for me. I love that the formula is buildable without looking cakey. If you have really great skin with minor to no imperfections, this would be perfect coverage for you.

No flash, natural light.
Flash, blended.

I wore this the other day for about 8 hours, and was pretty impressed. Since my skin is a bit oily, I did need to touch up here and there but nothing major and nothing some powder couldn't fix. At the end of the night, it wore a tiny bit, but my skin still looked nice. It looks absolutely amazing in every lighting and like I stated earlier, it does not look cakey. It's like your skin, but a million times better. The foundation has a very pleasant smell to it that does not irritate my sensitive skin.

The color I chose, #118 Flesh (for light skin with beige undertones) is sadly a little dark for my skin at the moment, but I can get away with it if I use a lighter powder shade. This could possibly be my summer shade! I am typically a MAC N4 shade which is pretty light with both pink and yellow undertones. If I were given the chance to pick another shade, I'd probably get #115 Ivory (for light skin with pink undertones) or #117 Marble (for light skin with yellow undertones) or better yet a mix of the two since my skin tone is neutral. They have a very wide range of colors (26, to be exact) that can suit anyone from the lightest of ivories to the darkest of ebonies.

This is definitely one of the nicest foundations I have tried and I believe is worth the money. The pump is awesome too. My skin looks airbrushed with a soft focus effect and makes me feel like I'm walking the red carpet. The foundation also lives up to it's name; it photographs beautifully and makes the skin look almost flawless. It's like magic! Photoshop in a bottle even, lol. It really is a great foundation and I suggest you give it a try! I give it a 4 out of 5 stars.

Have you tried or own this foundation? If so, what are your thoughts?

  1. i really wanna try this foundation!

  2. I have the 115 for my MAC NW15 skin. my skin is very dry and
I do not like how MUFE HD performs on it. It becomes cakey and accentuate the flakes. I would prefer more like a dewy finish to it instead of the power-like texture. Not a good purchase. Excellent colour match for my skin, though. So, looking forward to end this...

  3. MUFE HD in #110 is the ONLY ONLY ONLY foundation i've found that matches my skin tone [fair with cool tones but pink under tone]
It's absolutely perfect and work every penny.

FYI, in Canada it's 46-48$ at Sephora

  4. No pictures of you wearing the foundation?

  5. I've worn it in a couple of looks, but I'll be adding some close ups to this post soon :)

  6. I've worn it in a couple of looks, but I'll be adding some close ups to this post soon :)

  7. glad you liked it, but it faded blotchy on my skin so I didn't care for it, but loved out it looked after applying it.

  8. I have been dying to try it but I can never find a review more in-depth than "OMG OMG it's AMAZING!?!?!"

So thank you for taking your time to properly review it lol

  9. love it!!!!!!!!!!!love it!!!!!!!!!!!love it!!!!!!!!!!!love it!!!!!!!!!!!love it!!!!!!!!!!!love it!!!!!!!!!!!love it!!!!!!!!!!!love it!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. I've tried this. I didn't care for the...sheen...fine shimmer? In the formula. I felt it highlighted flaws and dry skin. Also they sadly don't really make it in an appropriate shade for me.

  11. Just a quick fyi Ulta does not carry Make Up Forever (much to my everlasting sadness)

  12. Would you say its worth switching over from Revlon Colorstay?

  13. i like this foundation but it is a bit oily on me. xx

  14. I use #117 and I have what I consider to be neutral skin, leaning ever so slightly to yellow.  This is a perfect match for me.  Everything I try is usually too dark or too orange. do you find this foundation builds up?  I feel like if I try for extra coverage that it really looks like I am wearing foundation.

  15. I have awarded you the beauty-ful blog award x

  16. Hi, I came to know your blog, loved, congratulations on your corner and lots of success here!
    I'm following your blog now!

I invite you to meet my Blog and if you like and can also follow my will be very welcome, feel at home!

Oh, there's a translator at the end of my page blog, I hope to see you there! :)

  17. It builds up pretty well for me. I usually go lighter with the second layer and concentrate mostly on the areas that need the most coverage.

  18. Hmm...I mean, I love my Revlon Colorstay and it is the only foundation that really controls my oily skin. I'd mainly us HD on special events :)

  19. Yeah, they sadly don't have a shade that matches my skin perfectly either. I'd likely need a mix if the 2 lightest shades.

  20. Aw, you are so welcome :D

  21. I love this foundation. For me it gives great coverage and photographs beautifully. So far it is my favorite liquid foundation and I am a 117. The only problems I have with it is that it seems to get a bit darker on me throughout the day and I need a good bit of touch up. The last part is no fault of the foundation so much as I touch my face all the time. :)

Thank you for taking the time to comment! Each one is read and appreciated!
