BH Cosmetics California Palette Mini Series - Hollywood

Hello, lovebugs! BH Cosmetics was kind enough to send me their newest palettes that are inspired by California's most iconic cities: Hollywood, Malibu and San Francisco. I decided to do an mini series along with a review and swatches of each palette.

When you think of California, what is the first iconic city that comes to mind? Hollywood, of course! Most people that aren't from the Los Angeles area dream of visiting Tinsel Town in hopes of running into their favorite celebrity and get a taste of what it's like to be a star. Having grown up in Los Angeles, I used to spend my weekends roaming around Hollywood Blvd as a teen, and I loved it. I know that city like the back of my hand! Sure, there are tons of weirdos, but there is just something so magical about this town. I love seeing people from all over the world in awe of the stars on the walk of fame and posing with famous hands and footprints at Grauman's Chinese Theatre. I love the city lights, crazy shops, the creepy Roosevelt Hotel, and the old school glamour! Oh, and you cannot forget about grumpy Elmo and Batman who yell at you for taking photos of them!

I created a look that embodied Hollywood's colorful lights and glamour, with a fun and modern twist!

Some or all products shown in this post may have been provided by the said brand(s) for potential review and/or use. For more information, please read my DISCLAIMER.

Fun Facts about Hollywood
  • The famous Hollywood Sign was erected in 1923 to advertise a real estate development - the sign originally said "Hollywoodland" but after maintenance stopped being done on the sign in 1939, the sign fell into total disrepair. When plans were finally made to tear down the sign in 1949 there was such a public outcry that the sign was saved, with the last four letters removed.
  • The Hollywood Sign is four stories high!
  • Charlie Chaplin was slated to be among the original 500 honorees on Walk of Fame in 1958, but he did not get his star until 1972 because of anti-communist hysteria.
  •  The first film to be made entirely in Hollywood was the 17-minute short In Old California directed by D.W. Griffith, released in 1910.
  • The 2,488 stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, honor “a community whose name means glamour and excitement in the four corners of the world”.

The BH Cosmetics Hollywood Eyeshadow and Blush Palette comes in a compact, travel friendly cardboard packaging that fits in the palm of your hand. There are three magnetic flaps that reveal two sides of eyeshadows, a mirror with the Los Angeles skyline printed below it, and four blushes. There are a total of 16 eyeshadows with a range of matte, shimmery and glitter shades. You get a great selection of bright colors, including a matte red which is pretty hard to come by, and a gorgeous matte coral! The blush selection is nice too, with a medium matte pink, and a darker and brighter glittery pink for those nights you want some extra sparkle. There also a light frosty pink highlighter and a medium toned warm matte bronzer.

I love the design of the packaging. It's very Hollywood, indeed! They forgot the traffic though ;)

Eyeshadow swatches applied over Lime Crime's Eyeshadow Helper, two layers.
If you have tried BH Cosmetics in the past, you know that these affordable shadows pack a punch, and the Hollywood palette did not disappoint. They are bright, vivid and of course, pigmented. On left side of the palette, you get a matte red, a shimmery white, a glittery dark grey, a shimmery silver, a matte magenta, a matte black, a glittery burgundy and a matte coral. These all apply smoothly, although the matte shade are a bit on the powdery side. With a primer, they last as long as any high end eyeshadow.

On the right, we have a shimmery medium gold, a matte purple (that is a dead on dupe of Sugarpill's Poison Plum), a shimmery cool purple, a matte canary yellow, a beautiful shimmery lime-light green, a matte dark greenish-blue, a shimmery bright blue, and a matte lime green.

In the center of the palette, you get two blushes, a highlighter and a bronzer. On the top left is a bright glittery pink, and the top right is a soft and feminine medium matte pink. On the bottom row, the highlighter is a light, frosty pinkish-white, and a matte warm bronzer. All of these performed exceptionally well and were very pigmented too.

Blush swatches applied on bare skin, two layers.

The best part about this gorgeous palette is the itty bitty price! You get 16 beautifully pigmented eyeshadows and four blushes, plus a nice little mirror for only $9.95 USD! That is a steal, if you ask me. BH Cosmetics always has great promotions and deals on their makeup, so be sure to check out their website, www.bhcosmetics.com, or their Facebook page, www.facebook.com/bhcosmetics to stay updated. The California palettes are limited edition, so if you want to get your hands on them, get them before they are gone! Overall, you can't beat the price and quality of BH Cosmetics! I used their 120 palette religiously when I first started my blog, so BH definitely holds a special place in my heart. I am also pleased to let you know that they are cruelty-free and you get free shipping on orders over $50 (US only)!
I really hope you guys enjoyed the look and review/swatches! Stay tuned for my Malibu and San Francisco posts. Take care, and see you soon!
xx

  13. You are very talented. You can pull off any color as well! I enjoyed your Muse inspired makeups. They're my favorite band and I went to their concert in February. It was great. I'm not brave enough to try darker colors though. I have pale skin, dirty blonde hair, and medium blue eyes. If I try a more dramatic look or darker color it always looks to dark for my skin tone. Any tips?
